Former Minister and current Member of Parliament Ravi Karunanayake states that a serious crisis has arisen within the current Working Committee of the United National Party. Speaking at a special press conference held in Colombo, he mentioned that "sons of ghosts" have infiltrated the party's current Working Committee.
The MP also emphasized that this handful of people have seized the party's top positions and decision-making powers, completely sidelining senior members who have served the party with great dedication for many years.Ravi Karunanayake expressed these views in response to a journalist's question regarding a statement circulating on social media indicating that Mr. Ashu Marasinghe has been removed from the party. He further stated that he is the most senior person in the party after the current leader, Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe, and that he is the only MP currently representing the parliament under the elephant symbol. He also mentioned that due to the presence of "sons of ghosts" within the Working Committee, the question has now arisen whether certain individuals have inherited the United National Party in their own name, according to their last will.
The MP expresses confidence that despite various internal party issues and criticisms, these two main political forces will very soon come together under a single common front under the current leadership. Ravi Karunanayake further emphasized that after the two parties merge in this way, they will be able to successfully face all future elections with immense and unbreakable political strength.
