The CID has informed the Fort Magistrate's Court that action will be taken to file a case before the Court of Appeal against six individuals, including former ministers Wimal Weerawansa, Udaya Gammanpila, and Member of Parliament Dilith Jayaweera, alleging that statements made during recent media conferences regarding former Chief of State Intelligence Service, retired Army Major General Suresh Salley, have contempted the court. The Criminal Investigation Department reported these facts before Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara.

In addition to Messrs. Wimal Weerawansa, Udaya Gammanpila, and Dilith Jayaweera, Asanka Nawaratne, Sugeeshwara Lenin Bandara, and Mahinda Pathirana are the other individuals against whom cases are to be filed.

The Magistrate has ordered the news directors of ten leading state and private media organizations in the country to provide the CID with unedited recordings of the media conferences held by these six individuals. This order was issued to media channels such as National Rupavahini, Independent Television, Sirasa, Hiru, Derana, Swarnavahini, Siyatha, TNL, Shakthi, and Vasantham, accepting a request made by the CID to the court.

Under the investigations related to the series of suicide terrorist attacks targeting Catholic churches and star-class hotels on Easter Sunday, former Chief of State Intelligence Service, Mr. Suresh Salley, is being detained and questioned based on detention orders obtained from the Secretary of Defence. This detention is carried out under the direct supervision of the Magistrate, according to the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act. The CID has pointed out to the court that the relevant politicians and individuals have issued statements at media briefings referring to this court-supervised detention as "Shani's torture chamber."

Sub-Inspector Sugath Mendis of the CID presented a progress report of the investigations to the court by calling this complaint through a motion. The CID further stated that since the suspects have made numerous such defamatory statements during media conferences, they expect to file a case against them before the Court of Appeal after examining the original copies of those statements and completing the investigations. Accordingly, the Magistrate, having considered the facts, ordered the submission of the relevant media footage and also directed the CID to submit a report including the progress of future investigations related to the incident to the court.
