The body of the Sri Lankan who went missing in Italy was found in a canal.

A dead body of a Sri Lankan floating in the "Naviglio Grande" canal in the Corsico area of Milan, Italy, has been discovered by the country's security forces. The unfortunate individual who lost his life is a 38-year-old Sri Lankan named Shan Hemal Gomis Muhandiramge.

Italian media reports that the body was recovered from the water by the diving team of the Milan Provincial Fire Brigade on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 16.

The deceased Sri Lankan had left home for work last Monday and no information about him had been received since then. It has been revealed that his partner had lodged a complaint with the police on the same day due to his failure to return home. A group of passers-by first saw the body of the missing person floating along the canal's waterway the following day.

The dead body was found floating past the "Musica" bicycle and pedestrian bridge in Corsico, not far from a location named "Via Alzaia Trieste". Immediately upon receiving information about the incident, 118 emergency medical service ambulances, local police, and Carabinieri security forces arrived at the scene and commenced investigations. According to the preliminary conclusions of the security forces, it is believed that the body had been in the water for several hours before it was discovered.

Although no external signs of violence have been found on the body of the deceased, the cause of death has not yet been definitively revealed. The country's police are conducting extensive investigations into whether this was an accidental fall into the canal, a sudden medical condition, suicide, or some criminal act. Forensic examinations and the post-mortem report will be crucial in confirming the exact cause of death.

Investigators also suspect that this individual may have fallen into the water in an area such as Trezzano sul Naviglio or Abbiatense, located upstream from Corsico, and subsequently drifted into the waterway. It is also hypothesized that due to the low height of some protective fences along the canal, he might have unexpectedly fallen into the canal while attempting to cool himself or bathe. However, all these facts are expected to be confirmed through further police investigations.
