Since the life security of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is under severe threat, his media spokesperson, Attorney Manoj Gamage, emphasizes that the current government will be solely responsible if any harm or danger befalls him.
He also explained the security lapses that existed when the former President was recently summoned before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption. He points out that a large crowd, who were not subjected to any form of body search, gathered around the premises, creating an opportunity for terrorists to easily infiltrate and harm Mr. Rajapaksa. The attorney further states that summoning the former head of state before the commission under such an extremely insecure and risky backdrop is a serious problem.
Especially since the month used by the LTTE organization to commemorate so-called war heroes has arrived, the media spokesperson also states that there is a higher tendency for various groups to attempt to harm Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa during such a period. Therefore, he states that it is essential for the government to act with very strict attention to this situation.
Manoj Gamage also recalled that after the current government came to power, the number of security personnel provided to the former President had been significantly reduced. He further stated that at a time when suspicious deaths are occurring in the country, a severe uncertainty regarding life security has been created.
