Police Headquarters has taken steps to suspend three police officers following an incident where a woman named Hansamali, involved in drug trafficking and held in custody at the Mount Lavinia Headquarters Police Station, escaped. Those temporarily removed from duty are a sergeant who was in charge of night duty on the day of the incident, a sergeant who served as a subordinate officer, and a female police constable who provided security to the suspect.

This escape incident was reported on the 16th of last month, where the suspect reportedly came out with a female constable, stating she needed to use the restroom. It is reported that she took advantage of this opportunity, escaped from police custody, and fled on a motorcycle that was prepared on a nearby road.

However, a special police team immediately launched an operation to find the escaped female suspect and managed to take her back into police custody in the Thalawathugoda, Kimbulawala area on the same day, after an operation lasting approximately eight hours. She was arrested while walking on a pedestrian pathway.

This suspect was initially arrested by a team of officers from the Special Operations Unit located at the Moratuwa Police Special Task Force camp. During a raid conducted on the Attidiya main road near Maliban Junction, Ratmalana, security forces also discovered 36,650 milligrams of heroin in her possession.
