A man who inhumanely murdered his wife by slitting her throat in the Neluwa area of Galle, threw the severed head in front of the house of the person said to be her illicit lover, and surrendered to the police this morning. The Galle Divisional Deputy Inspector General of Police's office has confirmed information regarding this incident.

The person who faced this tragic fate is a thirty-two-year-old woman, a mother of three, residing in the Siyambalagahahena, Happitiya area of Neluwa.

According to police investigations, a family dispute was the root cause of this horrific crime. The deceased woman had been having an illicit affair with a person living very close to her house, and this murder occurred when a conflict between the husband and wife, which escalated after they were caught red-handed recently, went too far.

The wife would send the children out of the house, waiting for the husband to leave for his distant workplace, and then invite her illicit lover home. While this had been happening for some time, the illicit lover's side had provided clues about this to the murderous husband. Accordingly, the husband, pretending to leave for his distant job as usual, waited for the right moment based on information given by neighbors to catch them, and upon returning home, caught his wife and the neighbor in bed together.
Immediately, forgetting his sarong, the neighbor wrapped a piece of cloth around himself and fled through the back door of the house, and it was after this that the argument between the wife and husband began.

Thereupon, the enraged husband severed his wife's neck with a sharp knife used for cutting tea bushes.

Subsequently, the severed head was taken to the house of the illicit lover, located about two hundred meters from the crime scene, and thrown into the yard, with the suspect shouting, 'You keep this yourself.' Afterwards, he went to the Neluwa Police Station and surrendered. The police have further revealed that the suspect husband who surrendered was a former army serviceman.
