CONFUSED SITUATION AT WELIKADA

A tensed situation has commenced once more at Welikada prison- The reasons are not known?

The day before yesterday a prisoner named ‘Mahesh’ has started a protest’ a fast unto death , for his support it is learnt that several other prisoners too had joined him. As a result a tensed situation has begun to be built within the Welikada prison
The reason had not been disclosed to the media. It is learnt that inside and outside the Welikada prison premises the defence ministry officials have deployed a number of security personnel including CID personnel. armed forces and STF personnel have been deployed to face any situation that may arise. This has been with affect from the yesterday night (11th).It has been revealed that some prisoners as a support of the colleagues action have commenced a hunger strike.
It is learnt that three prisoners who have been given long term sentences had commenced this protest. The leave of all prison employees have been cancelled with effect from the 12th.instant.All prison officials have been advised to stay focussed on this situation as several other prisoners who are also sentenced for long periods too have joined in and had got on to the top of the roofs of the prison buildings. The matter had begun with the prisoner ‘Mahesh’ had started the protest after which was followed by two the colleagues also who are sentenced for long periods.
The prisoner ‘Mahesh’ has had in possession certain information written by him to the prison officials and some other documentary evidence perhaps harmful to the authorities of the prison. Hence the precise factor for this action had not been disclosed to any media.
About 300 prisoners had reused their meals in protest. In a previous recent situation led to the deaths of several prisoners which are still fresh in our minds.
