Both L.G. People’s choice award and best ODI Player of the year award to Sangakkara, but was absent at the ceremony
Kumar Sangakkara was elected as the L.G. People’s choice award as well as the best one day player of the year 2011 organised by the ICC. The ceremony was held in London yesterday sans Sangakkara.
This awards ceremony was held for the 8th time and the selections were made on the basis of performances of each player during the period 25th August 2010 to the 3rd August 2011.Jonathan Trott of England was named as the ‘player of the year’. The best Test player of the year was won by Alastair Cook of England, while Mahendra Singh Dhoni bagged the award for ‘Spirit of Cricket’.
Sangakkara was unable to attend the awards ceremony owing to commitments to his country, playing against Australia in the 2nd Test. He was the only player who was not present to receive his awards. His absence was reported by foreign reporters as a wedding without the bride groom. The list of recipients of the awards is appended below under different categories.
