Buried ruins of ancient temple surfaces
The water level of the Kotmale reservoir is now receding fast and at an alarming rate owing to the present drought. The ruins of an ancient temple that was submerged when the reservoir was made during the accelerated Mahaweli project, have now surfaced.
It has been revealed by Historians that these ruins are of the Kadadora temple’s viharaya.
However it is reported that the top part of a Buddha statue also had emerged from the reservoir. This Buddha statue had contained some cavities which may have been the work of unscrupulous elements.
