Buried ruins of ancient temple surfaces
The water level of the Kotmale reservoir is now receding fast and at an alarming rate owing to the present drought. The ruins of an ancient temple that was submerged when the reservoir was made during the accelerated Mahaweli project, have now surfaced.
It has been revealed by Historians that these ruins are of the Kadadora temple’s viharaya.
However it is reported that the top part of a Buddha statue also had emerged from the reservoir. This Buddha statue had contained some cavities which may have been the work of unscrupulous elements.

ReplyDeleteBuddha lived with hindu people and showed us hindu flavours and TEACHING OF VAJRAYANA WITH HIGHEST WISDOM...Lot of Sri Lankans don't know about Buddha's teaching about Vajrayana..
ReplyDelete@3 Buddha was a hindu by birth. So what do you expect? Invariably there has to be some flavour of hinduism in Buddhism.Isn't it yet proved? Funny!
ReplyDelete@3-In Hinduism there are four Vedas, the Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda. The Vedas are the primary texts of Hinduism. They also had a vast influence on Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism. Traditionally the text of the Vedas was coeval with the universe. Scholars have determined that the Rig Veda, the oldest of the four Vedas, was composed about 1500 B.C., and codified about 600 B.C. It is unknown when it was finally committed to writing, but this probably was at some point after 300 B.C.
ReplyDeleteThe Upanishads are a continuation of the Vedic philosophy, and were written between 800 and 400 B.C.(Time of Buddha). They elaborate on how the soul (Atman) can be united with the ultimate truth (Brahman) through contemplation and mediation, as well as the doctrine of Karma-- the cumulative effects of a persons' actions.
When Buddha came to this world already all ideas in the Upanishads were accepted by the then society. Buddha also is said to have totally accepted what was said regarding rebirth and karma in the Upanishads that was free from cruel Brahmin laws and that had influenced the philosophy of Buddha and the Jain religion.
So what is wrong in having Hindu Gods for Buddhists to worship?
Anee mewuwa wathurata yatakaranakota kawuruwath thakinne nathuwa athi neda. Pawu appa.Than ung apaye athi.
