Wasps attacked the Kothmale school Dengue cleanup drive.

Seven schoolchildren and two mothers were injured in a wasp attack during a dengue prevention shramadana campaign held at the Kotmale Gamini Dissanayake National School grounds. Kotmale Police Station OIC, Police Inspector Indika Lalith confirmed that all nine people injured in this incident, which occurred today (19), have been admitted to the Kotmale Regional Hospital.




While the school premises were being cleaned, a wasp nest tied to a tree there suddenly became agitated and attacked the children and parents present. Immediately after the incident, authorities called the 1990 Suwasariya ambulance service and took steps to quickly transport the injured to the hospital.

Officers from the Kotmale Police, school teachers, and parents immediately took steps together to control this dangerous situation. The OIC further stated that they lit a bonfire on the school grounds and used smoke to control the agitated wasps.
