The life journey of a young woman, who was preparing to fly to Canada with a thousand beautiful dreams for the future in her heart, tragically ended inside a car parked in the Teldeniya District Hospital car park. When her cold dead body was found in the front seat of the car, still wearing the seatbelt, the boyfriend she trusted more than her own life had already pushed her into the darkness of death and disappeared.

This inhumane crime, which shatters faith in humanity and love, is not merely a single death but the ultimate outcome of a cruelly orchestrated deception, which has now become clearly evident.

The young woman who tragically passed away is thirty-four-year-old Rathnayake Pathirage Shyama Darshani, a resident of Pallama, Weligama, Matara. She was a kind person with healing hands, serving as a highly respected physiotherapist at Ampara General Hospital for several years, bringing comfort to patients. Police strongly suspect her boyfriend, thirty-eight-year-old T.M.S. Dineth Dissanayake, a software engineer residing in Gannoruwa, to be directly responsible for this mysterious death. The fact that he called the Teldeniya Police OIC on the evening of the seventeenth, informing them of a female body inside a car in the car park, further intensifies the mysterious nature of the incident.

The deceased Darshani had dedicated her entire life to her boyfriend, without any doubt, swayed by his deceptive words. With the sole aim of obtaining permanent residency in Canada, marrying him, and starting a new life, she bid farewell to her beloved job forever on the third of last month. When she handed over her resignation letter to Dr. Nissanka Wijeratne, the Director of Ampara District General Hospital, she was filled with immense hope for her future. For this purpose, she had repeatedly borrowed an enormous sum exceeding one and a half crore rupees from relatives, friends, banks, and moneylenders, and given it to her boyfriend. However, in the end, what she received was not a beautiful journey to Canada, but a cruel death in a deserted car park.

The background to this tragedy is the result of a very subtly orchestrated deception. In this relationship, which began several months ago, the suspect engineer completely deceived her with the clear intention of extorting money. Claiming that all arrangements for the trip to Canada were ready, he brought Darshani to a luxury hotel room in Nuwara Eliya, with a plan to stay there for about a month. Although they stayed there posing as a married couple, Darshani was under severe mental stress due to the daily delays in the Canada trip. Police investigations have confirmed that frequent arguments arose between them because of her constant questioning about it. It has now become clear that he had no real intention of taking her to Canada.

Darshani, who was under severe mental and physical stress, called her elder brother, R.P.S. Samantha Kumara, on the thirteenth, pleading with him to visit her as she was gravely ill. After that call, her phone went dead. Her worried brother immediately went to Nuwara Eliya to find the hotel where she was reportedly staying, but she was not there. Unable to find any trace, he filed a complaint with the Nuwara Eliya Headquarters Police, stating that his sister was missing. By the time her brother came looking for her, it was already too late, and her tragic fate had already been sealed.

Information revealed through police investigations and CCTV footage brings great horror. During the police inquiry into the disappearance, security camera footage from the hotel was examined. It showed the suspect struggling to carry Darshani out of the hotel and into a car between 9:45 PM and 10:45 PM on the sixteenth. Officers suspect that she had already been murdered or was severely unconscious by then. He left the premises after paying all the hotel bills in advance, telling hotel staff that his wife had a sudden illness.

Acting on the information, a team from the Crime Investigation Division, including Teldeniya Headquarters Police OIC Chief Inspector D.M. Chandrapala, went to the hospital car park and inspected the suspicious car. Since all its doors were locked, officers had to break open a front door to gain entry. There, they found Darshani's motionless body in the front seat, slightly reclined and still wearing the seatbelt. Initial examinations revealed marks indicating strangulation, further confirming the police's suspicion that this was a highly premeditated murder. It has now been confirmed that the suspect traveled from Nuwara Eliya to Teldeniya in the dead of night with the deceased's body.

Even more surprising is the true ownership of the car with license plates that the suspect used to transport Darshani's body. Investigations into the car's ownership revealed that it belonged to a woman residing in Ampara. She was none other than the former girlfriend of this suspect engineer. She herself revealed during police questioning that he had completely deceived her, fraudulently obtaining both money and this car. This clearly implies that several young women have been entangled in his web of deceit with the same modus operandi, and that he had even visited the deceased Darshani's ancestral home in Weligama on several occasions, gaining the strong trust of her family.

A thorough inspection of the hotel room in Nuwara Eliya, where the crime is suspected to have occurred, revealed a blood-stained bedsheet on a bunk bed, providing serious clues about the nature of the murder. The post-mortem examination regarding this death was conducted by District Judicial Medical Officer Dr. K.B.U.K. Bandara at Teldeniya District Hospital, where an open verdict was given. Although it appears the suspect likely attempted to make this death seem like a suicide, parts of the body have been sent to the Government Analyst to scientifically confirm the true cause. The magisterial inquiry was conducted by Teldeniya Magistrate Kamal Sanjaya Jayatilake.

Dineth Dissanayake, suspected of committing this cruel crime, has currently evaded the law and is on the run. Although signal towers confirm his mobile phone was last active in the Matale area, he has since disappeared without leaving any trace. As there is a possibility he may have fled abroad, special alerts have been issued to Katunayake and Mattala airports. Under the instructions of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Central Province, Lalith Pathinayake, and Deputy Inspector General of Police for Kandy - Matale Districts, Sudath Masinghe, Teldeniya and Nuwara Eliya Police have jointly launched a wide-ranging operation. The suspect's photographs have also been released to the media, and the police urge the public to report any information about him to the Nuwara Eliya Assistant Superintendent of Police at 071-8591096 or the Headquarters Chief Inspector at 071-8591097. What happened in the hotel room during Darshani's final hours remains an unsolved mystery to society.

While boundless love and trust are the most beautiful emotions in life, when that very trust ultimately becomes the cruel noose of death that strangles one's own neck, it leaves society not just with tears, but with a terrifying and indelible warning.
