Cricket Awards Night - 2019


The 'Cricket Awards Night' organised by Sri Lanka Cricket institution for the purpose of appreciating skills of female cricketers of the year was held day before yesterday (3) night at Colombo Water's Edge.

On this occasion it was Chamari Atapattu who won the Best Player (female) of the Year Award
. However no award was given for the Best Player (men) of the Year for the reason that payers had not displayed skills to the required level. Chamari Atapattu who was the the Best Player of the Year further claimed awards as the Best One Day Batswoman, the Best One Day Alrounder of the Year and Best Twenty 20 Batswoman of the Year. Whatever it is, as she has left the island to participate in the Australian Big Bash tournament, she was unable to attend the award ceremony. In the same way, Pethum Nissanka who won the Up and Coming Player Award was not present either as he is presently away in Nepal to play for the SAAF games cricket matches. 

This award ceremony was conducted for the purpose of recognising skills displayed in international and local cricket in the year 2018. On this occasion 17 awards were presented under the international category. In the meantime the once in a lifetime Appreciation Award was bestowed on Messrs. Shamil Amiti of the Daily Mirror newspaper and distinguished critic Kamal Deshapriya.
