Hashan Tillakaratne Steps Down as Bangladesh Women’s Head Coach

Former Sri Lankan cricketer Hashan Tillakaratne has resigned as the head coach of the Bangladesh women’s cricket team after their failure to secure direct qualification for the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup.

Tillakaratne, who took charge in October 2022, announced his decision during Bangladesh’s recent West Indies tour, where the team struggled in both ODI and T20I series. His contract had been extended until the tour, but the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was already considering other options.
Concerns of Failure

Despite some notable successes under his leadership—including a historic home series win against Pakistan and a competitive ODI series against India—Bangladesh's inconsistency in major tournaments remained a concern.

Tillakaratne, a former Sri Lanka Test captain and a World Cup-winning squad member in 1996, brought extensive experience to the role. However, his departure signals a fresh start for Bangladesh women’s cricket as they look to rebuild ahead of the 2025 World Cup qualifiers.
