Panadura anti-corruption unit say that six attractive fashion models who were engaged in prostitution at exorbitant prices and eight others possessing ten grammes of Kerala ganja were taken into custody near Bandaragama Gelanigama Expressway flyover on 23rd together with a luxury van.

A lady police officer remarked that the Kerala ganja was found hidden inside hair of these fashion models and was taken into custody. On a tip-off received by director of Panadura, Walana anti-
corruption unit, assistant superintendent of police, Mr. Hemal Prasanna that a clandestine business was being conducted where the owner of a beauty salon in Kottawa, Pannipitiya Mahalwarawa areas has engaged in similar activities employing attractive fashion models for the business of prostitution, under which information the said raid was conducted.

As such, under instructions issued to inspector of police, Mr. Dharmasiri by assistant superintendent of police to arrest all of them; the sergeant concerned has managed to acquire phone numbers of all women who were engaged in this racket. The sergeant who pretended to be a businessman who produced and sold gold items had got in touch with the fashion model by telephone and has ordered a woman to spend the night, police say. The attractive woman concerned has demanded a sum of Rs. forty thousand for that purpose, the disguised sergeant has said and after consenting to it, the police officer said that this woman has come with the sergeant day before yesterday (23) to Bandaragama, Gelanigama by van.

When the van turned into a by-road in Gelanigama, the sergeant has handed over an advance of Rs. five thousand to the manageress at which moment the police officers who were in ambush had taken them into custody. When two lady police officers had checked two of the women taken into custody, it was possible to find Kerala ganja hidden inside her (the racketeer) hair, a police officer remarked.

Police say that this was clear evidence that this suspect woman in addition to supplying women to clients, was supplying narcotics too. All women who were taken into police custody including the main suspects are those appearing in minor roles in teledramas that are being telecast these days on rupavahini channels and appear in commercials of private telephone companies as well as other companies, a police officer said.

It was revealed at investigations that the main suspect who directs this business of prostitution is a woman who lives separated from her husband, police say. Women of the ages of 23 and 38 are residents of Kelaniya, Bandarawela, Homagama and Moneragala. All of them are expected to be produced before Horana Magistrate Court.
