'Kush' ganja with better taste, better aroma and better dope ... to Sri Lanka for first time!

An Iranese female arrived early this morning (31) bringing a stock of better developed hybrid-type ganja by the name of Kush and she was apprehended by  a team of Police Anti Narcotics Unit at Katunayaka Airport.

The said Iranese is an architect aged 24 years and has come to Doha, Qatar from Iran and from there proceeded to Sri Lanka. She has had 400 grammes of this stock of ganja worth about Rs. five lakhs
hidden in a false bottom of her travelling bag and police officers of Anti Narcotics Division have managed to detect the narcotics concerned and thereby taken her into custody.

It is understood that this is the first time that this type of a stock of ganja was taken into custody in Sri Lanka. This speciality of ganja growing in the vicinity of Hindukush Mountain range between North Pakistan and Afghanistan was found in the 1970s and it was thus given the name of Kush thereafter, a high official of Police Anti Narcotics Unit has said.

This lady has arrived in Doha, Qatar Kingdom from Iran and from had travelled in the UL 668 Air Lankan flight reaching Katunayaka Airport at 1.07 early morning. Officers of Police Anti Narcotics Unit were able to get at this stock of ganja weighing 400 grammes worth about Rs. five lakhs and arrested her.

This variety of ganja is grown in the vicinity of Iran and happens to be of a better taste than the ganja marketed in Sri Lanka and has been developed to produce a better aroma, giving a better 'kick', a spokesman of Police Anti Narcotics Unit said and this is the first occasion that this lady has arrived in Sri Lanka and also the first instance when this variety of ganja was nabbed in Sri Lanka. It was further said that if Sri Lankans were addicted to this type of ganja it would be a most difficult task to rescue them from the addiction, the spokesman added.

This lady was expected to be produced before Negombo Magistrate Court   yesterday (31) and further investigations are underway on instructions of Deputy Inspector of Police, Mr. Sajeewa Medawatta under supervision of Mr. Thilak Dhanapala, Assistant Superintendent of Police of Police Anti Narcotics Unit with directions of a team of officers of Police Anti Narcotics Unit.
