Popular bakery fined for selling bun with needle!

The Colombo Maradana branch of a reputed private bakery boasting of a longstanding history in bakery products has sold a bun with a needle inside it and as a consequence the owner has had to pay a fine of Rs. one lakh to the lady who bought the bun on orders issued today by Colombo High Court Judge, Shashi Mahendran.

The said restaurant is situated in Maradana area and the lady who bought a bun from there had been
in the process of consuming the bun when a needle had got stuck in her mouth. Later though she had complained about it to the owner and the latter has reprimanded and threatened the lady and asked to get out of the place. However she has informed the public health inspector of the area and subsequently has filed a legal case with Colombo magistrate court.

Initially the court has ordered that the lady concerned be paid a fine of Rs. ten thousand when the owner has refused to pay that fine saying that he is not guilty of the charge against him. The owner on the other hand has filed a case himself with Colombo High Court saying that the lady has coined up this story and is trying to disrepute their bakery network. The court which announced the verdict today after subjecting all parties concerned to an inquiry has ordered the owner to pay the petitioner a fine of Rs. one lakh instead of the fine of ten thousand issued previously.
