The entire health sector has been deeply shocked by the news of the discovery of the lifeless body of Dr. Prabath Dayaratne, an anesthesiologist who worked at the Badulla Teaching Hospital, after he went missing. Dr. Dayaratne suddenly disappeared on the morning of August 23 while on hospital duty, prompting the police and security forces to immediately launch a wide-ranging investigation to find him.

During the investigations, CCTV camera footage installed in the Meegahakiula area was examined, revealing the doctor's car driving towards Mahiyanganaya. Subsequently, authorities were able to locate the abandoned car near the Viyana Canal in the Mapakadawewa 17th Milepost area on the main Badulla-Mahiyanganaya road.

With only the vehicle found in this elephant-infested jungle area, residents, police, crime scene investigators, and the army launched a joint search operation. As a result, on the morning of August 24, the doctor's body was found in a thicket near the vehicle, and a packet of medicine found near the body has also been taken into custody by the security forces.

Investigations are underway to determine if the doctor's death was a suicide. Mahiyanganaya Police are conducting further investigations to uncover the background that led to this tragic incident.
