All operations launched with a view of searching for the university student who had slipped from Asupini Ella two days before and had disappeared from the foot of the ella had proved unsuccessful because of the volume of water in the ella, Uduwella grama niladhari, Mr. H.W. Asela Kolitha Ariyarathna mentioned. What Mr. Asela stated was day before yesterday (15) was that 56 year old Anura Kumarasiri living in in his grama sevaka area had got
down to the deep pit at the foot of Asupini Ella where the young man is suspected to have fallen; but that because the volume of water there was too much and because of tremor there he had not been able to go down.
What the grama niladhari said was that 74 year old Abeyratna of Rajapaksha Gedera living in the village and had been able to retrieve 14 corpses of persons who had fallen into Asupini Ella had shown his willingness to search for this youth; his children having considered his age had not favoured it. It was Dhammika Sampath Kuruvita studying at Kelaniya University hailing from Aranayaka, Kalwana who had slipped his foot on 14th afternoon and fallen down from the ella in this manner. He had been to see the ella in the company of three of his campus colleagues when he faced this tragic incident.

Sirikantha, inspector of police of Gampola, Kurunduwattha police station and sub-inspector, Marasingha carried out inquiries in this connection and had taken down statements from the other three who had accompanied this friend. By now, 14 persons had become victims of Asupini Ella. What the villagers said was that certain media has exposed incorrect information in this connection to the country.
