Principal abuses student on pretext of assisting her in O/L exam ...by creeping into her house

Professions which had achieved a respectable status for a period of time in Sri Lanka have by now faced a tragic state of affairs where it has become so degraded  and even educationists  being found guilty in this respect have become common news. 

An instance where a principal of a school has resorted to sexual abuse being taken into police custody was reported yesterday (17) from Pitigala. This principal is supposed to be 46 years old and still a bachelor. A certain female student having failed her first year ordinary level examination and had

been studying under the principal concerned had been preparing for her second year exam from home in which case the principal has got her down to school on and off on the understanding of providing her of necessary instructions.

In the process the principal has managed to extract personal details from her and after coming to know about her father suffering from a heart ailment and was sick, had even paid a visit to him. He had thus come to know that she was at home with her aged grandfather during daytime. 

Informing about necessary application forms to sit for the ordinary level examination, the principal had on two or three occasions gone to her house and had handed them to her during the recent past. On each such occasion the principal had observed that the student concerned was spending her time freely at home and then the principal has attempted to associate her as a close friend and even had sent messages to the student's mobile phone. 

In the meantime, on the day of the incident the principal who managed to confirm that the girl was in the company of the grandfather in the house had made a visit to meet her and had even has had a cordial tete-a-tete with the grandfather and then proceeded to go into the house and begun to talk to her. After a short time, after realising that the grandfather was not coming into the house had slowly and quietly taken the student by hand and directed her to a room. while inside the room he had begun his pranks of abusing the girl against her protests. On that occasion her attempt to yell out too was prevented by the principal and the girl who never anticipated that he would try such tactics on her, had fainted in his presence. When she regained her consciousness, the principal was found missing and she had then informed the police that her clothing was thrown aside and that she was left naked. 

Subsequently, the student who put on fresh clothes had rushed to a nearby house and related the calamity that befell her. The lady of that house who promptly got into action had gone to the police station with the girl and lodged a complaint. Police who forwarded the schoolgirl to a judicial medical officer had taken steps to launch a search on the said principal; but he had by then fled the area. Whatever it is, a few days after the incident the principal had presented himself to police through two lawyers and was then taken into custody, Pitigala police say.

The father of this student happens to be engaged in a minor employment while the mother is employed in a tea factory. Two sisters of the schoolgirl are studying at her own school. The 46 year old suspect is expected to be produced before court today (18).
