Wanduramba Priyanka who dies from a gun shot from mentally deranged son of Saudi boss!
Yet another incident which reminds of the risky situation of life in embarking on domestic service by going to Middle East from Sri Lanka took place some days ago. 38 year old Priyanka Jayasekera living in Abeysundawaththe in Katuburawa, Wanduramba, Galle became the prey of a gun shot of a mentally upset son of her boss in Saudi last Saturday and embraced death thereby.
She was the mother of 3 children and has gone overseas several
times because of economic pressure and has returned home likewise. In each occasion she had been to various places of work. She was killed in Bured, Saudi Arabia at the hands of a 31 year old son of the boss she worked for who incidentally had been a mentally deranged person. She had been shot at by a firearm used for hunting purposes and later he had shot his ownself, it was reported.
"She went abroad to keep our family alive. All 3 children of ours are daughters. One of course is married. The second one is still schoolgoing. She's in the 8th Year. The third one is 8 years old. Both of them are schooling. My youngest child is a heart patient. It was told that she is suffering from a hole in the heart and is being treated. We actually fell into debt because of the expenditure for her medicine. Our entire money was spent to have that child cured", it was Mr. L.G. Upul (47) who related all this in tears and was the husband of the deceased.
He further went on saying, "My wife left abroad on a number of occasions. On all such occasions she stayed back there for 2 years. For the last time she she came to the island, it was in the year 2009. This time of course she had to go again because the expenses were even higher for this child. We didn't like her going this time. Because she has been away before and has come back. But later we discussed and agreed that I would look after the children. 'Will send both daughters to a good school. Shall bring new bags for the books', so saying she left after stroking their head also.
From the time she left this time, there were problems. The necessary things were prepared by taking loans. Such action was taken without any fear because she had gone earlier and come back. But she never spoke from the time she went this time. So I ran hither and thither to look for my wife. Other than the problems we already had, other problems too were on the way. Right at the moment the agency opens its doors in the morning we were there to inquire. It was when we were unable to wait anymore that a complaint was lodged at Foreign Employment Bureau. A madam there inquired into the matter. After inquiring she arranged things for us to contact her once a month. Then when we spoke, she sent her salary ... but part by part. When speaking, she said that as there were some problems there, it was complained to change that home. However she had not done so. Whatever was done with those complaints made, she got only 3 months salary from those 6 months. At a time that she contacted me and when I asked her, what she said was that as the boss was not in, the salary would be paid when he returns. We didn't receive her salary in the last 3 months. It was on the 10th of last month that she spoke to me for the last time. She asked me to look after the 2 children. Because the almsgiving of the temple was drawing nigh, she told to arrange it. She asked me to give the medicine for the small one, in time. She also told not to make anything short where the food of the child was concerned. We discussed that the house should be renovated a little. But then I asked ... what about the money without the salary. She said that she'd send the money as soon as she gets her salaries. She kept the phone down quickly then. After that day she never spoke. I was doing odd jobs. But after she left I was looking after the children. What she wanted was to have the small one cured somehow or other. Today all that has been washed away in the waters. We were to put up the house. We couldn't do any of those".
