President asks Ravi to hand over his resignation!

After the sensational verbal statements of the bond scam, Minister Ravi Karunanayaka has received a telephone call from President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (4) Friday where he has commented on the no confidence motion and future political procedures at length and has said that the best

solution for this situation is for Mr. Ravi Karunanayaka to step down, political sources say.

Apart from the United Opposition, Ministers inclusive of SB, Dayasiri and Amaraweera who have already spoken against Ravi under which backdrop the Maithri faction too would show a negative reaction in future against Ravi, the President has notified. In the wake of allegations aimed at Mr. Ravi Karunanayaka, functioning further in the capacity as a cabinet Minister is a serious issue both to the government as well as to Mr. Ravi Karunanayaka, the President has ultimately exclaimed.

The Minister is to be summoned next week and a decision is to be taken in this respect, President Maithripala and Prime Minister Ranil have contemplated while the President has spoken over the phone yesterday (4) to the Prime Minister and discussed this matter, political sources reveal.

Whatever it is, on a question posed to Mr. Ravi Karunanayaka by the Daily Mirror newspaper and what he had said was that the story of the President asking him to resign is only a fictitious story.
