When the students walk and the proposed protest campaign by the students of Kelani University were made known to the Fort police the OIC had informed the Fort magistrate for his advice. The Fort magistrate had issued a disciplinary order that they could have a peaceful walk to Fort but should not at any stage give way to traffic congestion ,

Despite this order the University students had flouted the instructions contained in the order. The Fort police had been able to disperse the students from the Fort area using tear gas and water cannons.
