Sri Lanka's Ishadi Amanda, who won the first runner-up position in the Mrs. World pageant, went live on Facebook to address the Sri Lankan people after her victory, alongside Sri Lankan pageant organizer and beautician Chandimal Jayasinghe.
During the live session, they tearfully acknowledged those who helped them reach victory and spoke about the challenges they faced. Chandimal had to step aside as he couldn't control his tears, while Ishadi continued speaking while wiping her eyes with a handkerchief. Here's what they said:
"It's a happy day for all of Sri Lanka, as the Mrs. World pageant was held today. Ishadi managed to elevate our country again. Along with bringing a crown, Ishadi worked extremely hard.
At a time when no one offered support, I must first thank the Caolin organization who gave me strength to do the Miss Sri Lanka pageant. Without them, it's truly difficult to do these things in Sri Lanka. We were able to go abroad and represent Sri Lanka because such organizations helped us.
I express my heartfelt gratitude to Rukmal Senanayake sir and the team. I believe today's events have made it clear to everyone how far we have come.
Thanks to Ishadi's husband. He trusted me and came from Paris, leaving his family behind to support me. We received no support from the government or anyone else. We regretfully note that we didn't even receive support to bring the national costume.
My request is that from here onwards, support should be given to every national director and every contestant who represents Sri Lanka. Because they all do this for the motherland.
Chandimal sir is like a god I met in my life. I had a dream. Although I couldn't bring the crown today, I think the name Ishadi will never be forgotten. Many people in Sri Lanka talked about it, showed love.
Special mention must be made of Channel C. They were the only ones who consistently stayed with me during my pageant competitions.
I regretfully mention that some media organizations were even reluctant to call me for interviews.
Going forward, we all need to work together to take Sri Lanka higher on the world stage. I'm asking people to understand that Sri Lanka can be taken to the world not just through cricket, but through such fields as well.
Finally, I want to say thank you to everyone who stood with me - those who criticized me, those who criticized my pageant competitions, those who criticized my crown, those who discredited and valued my competition work. I promise to give an even better response in the future.
My only hope is to be able to host the Mrs. World pageant in Sri Lanka next year. We seek everyone's support for this. Only if we all work together can we take our country forward.
Sri Lanka is our pride, our identity. Winning or losing in a competition is normal. But we should never allow our country or nationality to be degraded. I came to this position today only because of my love for Sri Lanka. I lost many things - money, effort, family. But today we brought Sri Lanka to the world stage."
