Paba's father arrested ... over cheating of liquor license

   Though popular tele-actress and member of parliament Upeksha Swarnamali (Paba) often makes mention of her mother and even appears with the mother, she does not speak about the father in public.
 
   However, it was from courts that some news were reported about Paba's father. Paba's father had been taken into custody on a complaint of cheating by the Colombo Bribery and Corruption unit where he had acquired a sum of Rs.7 lakhs on the agreement of giving a liquor license.  He was a resident of Kelaniya and by name is Jayatissa Tennakoon. He was produced in courts yesterday.

   He was released by Fort Magistrate and Addl. Judge Thilina Gamage on a cash bail of Rs. 25,000 and 2 personal bonds of 5 lakhs each.

   This cheating incident had taken place in March, 2012. The suspect had obtained Rs.7 lakhs and 10,000 from Sinnathambi Jeewaratnam,proprietor of Aishanet Cafe situated along Galle Road, Wellawatta on the understanding that a liquor license would be given to him. However, the said license had not been given as promised and it was reported to the Colombo Bribery unit that he had been involved in cheating.

   When the suspect was produced in courts,bail was granted on the understanding that he promises to make part payments of the money he had so acquired. Lawyers appearing on behalf of the suspect have explained matters to the Magistrate in this respect.
