Fonseka had commenced a protest against injustice that has been meted out to him on the day of his second year Anniversary of his sudden imprisonment and had protested and had refrained from taking meals. After a few hours he himself had decided to stop his hunger protest.
As he had to be taken to a private hospital for physiotherapy treatment the prison officers had made a plea to him to go the private hospital for his treatment.
He had commenced his hunger fast after he returned from courts. This was reported by Arjuna Ranatunga a staunch member of his party.

The Appeal Petition against the verdict of the ‘White flag’ incident was taken up for hearing at the Supreme Court today. The Prison Officers had made a ploy preventing Sarath Fonseka in making his usual remarks by taking him through a door at the rear of the court premises. Although he was to be taken for physiotherapy treatment from a private hospital the prison officers had taken him back to the Welkada prison. As the media had prevented from recording his utterings in protest he had commenced fasting .This was disclosed loudly to those who joined in the protest in court premises by Anoma Fonseka.
The Appeal Case was not heard as the Judges in the bench of the Supreme Court had told that they needed time to study the submissions and hence the case was postponed and is due to be heard in the month of May
