66 PIRITH CHANTING CEREMONIES FOR PRESIDENT’S B’DAY

On the 18th of November to felicitate President’s 66 Birthday 66 identical ‘Pirith Mandapayas’( Pirith halls) to conduct Pirith ceremonies are to be made to have Pirith ceremonies island wide.
Plans have already have been made and is to be implemented on the initiative of the authorities of the ‘Bellanwila Raja Maha Viharaya’.
Under this concept to felicitate President’s birthday there would be 66 Pirith ceremonies at selected places island wide. In addition there are plans to conduct ‘Bodhi Poojas’, offering of scholarships to school children and gifting to poor their necessities.
For President’s last birthday there was a huge tree planting campaign Island wide and the opening and christening of the Hambantota Harbour was organised in an elaborate manner. On the day of his last birthday the largest ‘Kiribatha’ was made and it even went into the Guinness Book of world records. This year it was proposed to open the new ‘Southern Highway’ on the following day of his birthday on the 19th November. However due to unavoidable circumstances the opening of the new southern highway has been postponed to the 27th of November.
