Minister of Power, Anura Karunatilake, stated that due to an imbalance in the national power grid, steps have been taken to disconnect electricity in several areas, including Colombo, today (30). The Minister pointed out that this measure was taken to safely maintain the stability of the system, and added that the low demand for electricity today has been the main reason for this situation.
However, he further stated that necessary steps are currently being taken to promptly restore the electricity supply to the areas where it has been disrupted.Meanwhile, the National System Operator (Private) Company (NSO) has taken steps to make a special request to rooftop solar panel owners across the island to ensure reliable and stable operation of the national power grid during the Vesak festival season. Accordingly, the company requests solar panel owners to voluntarily deactivate their solar power systems until 3:00 PM today. The company points out that due to the significantly low electricity demand currently in the system, such careful management has become essential to safeguard the stability of the grid.
The operator emphasizes that public cooperation is extremely important to provide an uninterrupted and safe electricity supply to all consumers across the island during this festive season. As an active contribution to maintaining the balance and stability of the national power grid, rooftop solar panel customers are requested to comply with this temporary measure.
