A 65-year-old man who attempted to molest an Advanced Level student after deceiving her and taking her to a house, as she was returning home after attending a tuition class, was arrested by Anamaduwa Police yesterday (28). This student, after finishing her tuition class and getting off the bus, was walking along the road waiting for her father or brother to pick her up when she faced this unfortunate incident.

Police investigations have revealed that the suspect tactfully intimidated the girl and took her to a house belonging to him.

According to the girl who faced the incident, the suspect intimidated her by saying there were elephants ahead on the road she was walking on. Misleading the girl by telling her not to go forward, he led her along a side road to his house, located on a large plot of land spanning several acres. Although the girl felt some suspicion upon entering the deserted and large premises, the suspect led her inside the house. There, the suspect gave her a sarong and forced her to remove the clothes she was wearing and wrap the sarong around her body.

The student, severely frightened and traumatized by the suspect's unusual behavior, immediately tried to flee from the location. At that moment, the suspect grabbed the girl's hands tightly and tried to prevent her from escaping. However, the girl, after struggling hard to free herself from the suspect, ran from there to a nearby house and informed its residents about the danger she had faced. Subsequently, the people in that house immediately informed the girl's parents and took steps to place her in their custody.

Following a complaint made by the girl's party to the Anamaduwa Police Station regarding this incident, police officers immediately acted and arrested the suspect. Meanwhile, the severely traumatized student has been admitted to Puttalam Base Hospital for medical examinations and treatment, and she was scheduled to be presented before a specialist Judicial Medical Officer.
