The visit of Indo-Fijian social media activist Sosha Prasad, also known online as 'Mia Z', who arrived in Sri Lanka in May 2026, sparked significant discussion in the country's digital sphere. With over a million followers on social media platforms including Instagram, she is a young woman in her early twenties, approximately 4 feet 10 inches tall.

In addition to fashion design, she has gained global popularity by creating adult content through platforms like 'OnlyFans' and 'Fansly'. Her visit to Sri Lanka as an ordinary tourist, and the content she created with local social media creators such as Ashen Senarathna and Dinel Walpola, quickly spread across the internet, turning her trip into a major social controversy.

Joining Ashen Senarathna's podcast, Mia shared her life experiences and her thoughts on the beauty of Sri Lanka's highlands, Ceylon tea, and the taste of local food. Humorous moments, such as her accidental mispronunciation of Dinel Walpola's name as 'Dinel Polpala', became extremely popular on platforms like TikTok and Facebook. She emphasized that she is a law-abiding individual and stated that she did not create any of her usual adult content during her stay in Sri Lanka, spending her time purely as a tourist. She uses the stage name 'Mia Z' to distinguish between her personal and professional life, and the travel videos created during her visit were embraced with great curiosity by local audiences.

This incident highlighted the conflict between traditional South Asian cultural boundaries and the borderless nature of the global digital space. Critics strongly questioned the ethics of providing mainstream digital platforms to an adult entertainment performer in a country where the production of obscene content is illegal. However, Mia's supporters argued that regardless of her profession, she should be accepted as an ordinary tourist, and that in a globalized world, personal career choices should be respected, rather than thinking like 'frogs in a well'. The double standards within local society were also heavily criticized, particularly the fact that while a local woman engaging in similar activities would face severe criticism, a foreign woman was afforded a different level of tolerance.

Born in Fiji, her mother is also Fijian, and rumors have spread that her father might be Sri Lankan due to her appearance resembling a Sri Lankan woman. She has stated that although she is a Hindu, she greatly appreciates the Buddhist philosophy based on compassion, and that if she were not Hindu, she would definitely be a Buddhist. With her second visit to Sri Lanka, which followed her global popularity for creating adult content, various protests emerged against her.

However, Mia rejected these accusations, emphasizing that she is a law-abiding individual and does not create any obscene content in Sri Lanka. Commenting on her profession, she stated that sex work is the oldest profession in the world, and she is not ashamed of it as she engages in it safely, legally, and pays taxes. She also mentioned that after losing her Instagram account, which once had around 400,000 followers, she experienced severe mental distress but managed to rebuild a following of one million within a short period of nine months. A primary objective of her visit was to promote Sri Lanka's tourism industry.

She created various content with local social media creators like Ashen Senarathna and Dinel Walpola. During her previous visit, she also helped attract tourists to Sri Lanka by showcasing places like the Ella railway tracks, Galle Fort, and 'Ministry of Crab' to the world through her social media. Stating that the love and acceptance she receives from Sri Lankan fans are a great comfort to her, she expresses a strong fondness for Sri Lankan food and drinks, especially rice and curries, as well as Dilmah brand Ceylon tea. Although she lives a wealthy life today, her childhood was filled with harsh experiences such as extreme poverty and domestic violence. Escaping that dark past, she is now the owner of several homes and has managed to provide a high standard of living for her parents.

Her main message to society is that it's important to live truthfully to oneself without being enslaved by societal opinions, as other people don't pay one's bills. Although someone attempted to lift her skirt and harassed her while she was riding a motorcycle during her first visit, she believes that overall, Sri Lanka is a safe country. Mia Z further stated that she deeply loves this beautiful island and its people, and hopes to return to Sri Lanka in about four weeks.
