The Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court today (September 16) ordered that Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa be remanded until the 23rd, in connection with an incident involving the alleged misappropriation of approximately two million US dollars during the purchase of Airbus aircraft by SriLankan Airlines.
MP Namal Rajapaksa, who was presented as a suspect in connection with this investigation, is currently in remand and was thus brought to court for the hearing today (16th). The Magistrate also decided to announce the court order regarding the bail application submitted on behalf of the suspect MP on the same day.
In this court proceeding, Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara appeared on behalf of the Criminal Investigation Department, while President's Counsel Anil Silva and his legal team presented arguments on behalf of the suspect MP. After considering the facts presented by both parties, Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara issued this order.
