17-18 train strikes demanding the removal of the General Manager

Since the government has not yet given a definite decision regarding the removal of the current General Manager of Railways from his post, the Joint Railway Trade Unions have decided to proceed with the symbolic strike scheduled for September 17 and 18 without any changes.

During a special discussion held today (14) at the Ministry of Transport, trade union representatives clarified the matter before the Secretary of the Ministry of Transport. During the discussion, extensive attention was paid to the current administrative and operational crises within the Railway Department, as well as the difficulties faced by passengers and service disruptions.

The trade unions strongly emphasized that the current General Manager should be immediately removed from his post, as the trust in his administration has been completely eroded. However, the Secretary of the Ministry of Transport stated during the discussion that more time is needed to take a final step regarding the said request.

The proposal put forward by the Secretary was directly rejected by the trade union representatives, and as a result, no agreement was reached between the two parties regarding the suspension of the trade union action. Accordingly, the Joint Railway Trade Unions further confirm that the trade union action will definitely be launched in the next two days as previously planned.
