Six students from the Eastern wing were arrested last year for a ragging incident.

Six students from the Faculty of Communication and Business Studies have been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with an alleged ragging incident that occurred inside a cafeteria at the Trincomalee Campus of Eastern University. This step has been taken based on an incident where a group of freshers admitted to the said faculty for the 2022/23 academic year were subjected to torture and sexual cruelty on April 29, 2025.

Following a lengthy investigation conducted based on a complaint received, a team of officers from the CID's Anti-Ragging Complaint Investigation Unit made these arrests.

The Criminal Investigation Department confirms that one female student is among those arrested. The said female student and the five male students are scheduled to be produced before the Trincomalee Magistrate's Court in due course.
