Simultaneous chaos in several prisons

Unrest that occurred in several prisons on the island has so far reported some deaths and injuries. Since the night of (06), these conflict situations have arisen in the New Magazine and Kuruwita prisons, and the situation at that location has now been completely brought under control.

The unrest that temporarily began in Kuruwita Prison last night was not initially brought under control, and today (07), clashes have erupted once again among the inmates. To quell the situation, prison officials had to use tear gas, and later, as it further escalated, steps were taken to fire shots using minimal force, according to Mr. Harsha Nanayakkara of the Ministry of Justice and National Health. This conflict has resulted in at least two deaths and four others being hospitalized with injuries. It is also reported that the unruly inmates caused severe damage to the prison hospital located there. Meanwhile, following the unrest that occurred at New Magazine Prison last night, eleven injured inmates were taken to the hospital. However, it has been confirmed that one of those receiving treatment unfortunately passed away. In addition to these incidents, there are reports of some unrest developing at the Negombo, Pallansena Prison. However, no official statement or further information regarding that incident has been revealed yet.
