Bank manager dies in motorcycle-bus collision

Anuradhapura Headquarters Police stated that a manager of a state bank located in Eppawala died in a fatal road accident yesterday (5) morning in the Alankulama area on the Anuradhapura - Padeniya A-28 main road, when a motorcycle and a private bus collided.

The deceased has been identified as Dissanayake Mudiyanselage Rohan Jayantha Bandara, a 43-year-old unmarried man, who was previously residing at No. 18, Ihala Wewa, Kiralogama, and was currently residing in the Kudawewa area, Anuradhapura Airport Road. At the time of his death, he was serving as a manager at a state bank in Eppawala.

While the deceased was traveling on a motorcycle from Anuradhapura towards Eppawala, around 7:10 AM, in the area between the 79th and 80th kilometer posts on the A-28 road, the accident occurred when he collided head-on with a private bus coming from Aliyagala towards Anuradhapura. Police stated that preliminary investigations revealed the accident occurred when the motorcyclist moved to the right side of the road to overtake another vehicle and collided with the oncoming bus. A hospital spokesperson said that the injured bank manager was admitted to Ward 11 of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital and subsequently died while receiving treatment.

The police had arrested a 46-year-old man, the driver of the bus involved in the accident, who resides in the Eliya Diwulwewa area of Eppawala. He was scheduled to undergo a medical examination to determine if he had consumed intoxicating substances. A spokesperson for the traffic division stated that after the examination, the suspect was to be produced before the court.
