Couple arrested for drug trafficking under the guise of enjoying love

The Homagama Divisional Anti-Narcotics Raid Unit has succeeded in arresting a husband and wife who had been engaged in large-scale drug pill trafficking for a long time, traveling by motorcycle and staying in secluded places on side roads pretending to be lovers, along with 90 drug pills.

The couple taken into police custody are 21 years old and residents of Padukka area. This raid was carried out based on information received by Police Sergeant (53529) Kaluarachchi that a drug pill trafficking operation was underway, with the couple choosing secluded spots on side roads within the Padukka police division and pretending to be lovers to sell drug pills.

Accordingly, a team of officers deployed an undercover agent on Padukka Mawathagama School Road and purchased a card containing 10 drug pills for one thousand rupees. After confirming that the drug pills were of the 'Malpethi' type, other officers who were on observation duty nearby immediately acted upon a given signal and arrested the couple.

Upon searching the suspects, in addition to the 1000 rupees earned from selling drug pills, another 80 drug pills and the motorcycle used for the trafficking were also taken into police custody.

It has been revealed that the arrested young male suspect had previously been arrested by the Meegoda Police in connection with drug pill trafficking and was later released on bail.

It has been observed that this husband and wife couple had been carrying out this trafficking as their livelihood for some time, and even school students and women had purchased drug pills from them. They conducted this trafficking by staying in secluded places pretending to be lovers, so as not to arouse suspicion from anyone. The arrested couple has been handed over to the Padukka Police for further legal proceedings.
