The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has taken steps to immediately suspend access to 24 online gambling and betting websites that were illegally operated within Sri Lanka without obtaining proper licenses. This decision was made yesterday (04) following a notification from the Gaming Regulatory Authority, which operates under the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, operating under the Ministry of Digital Economy, announces that operating and promoting such services within the country without obtaining the necessary valid licenses, in accordance with Sections 15, 16, and 18 of the Gaming Regulatory Authority Act No. 17 of 2025, is a punishable offense and an illegal act according to Section 44 of the said Act. Accordingly, all telecommunication service providers have been instructed to take necessary steps to prevent access to the relevant illegal websites from within the country.
