The suspect Kannangarage Lalith Kannangara, also known as 'Bus Lalith', who was hiding in Dubai in connection with numerous organized crimes committed in this country, including homicides, drug trafficking, and extortion, was brought to the island this morning (25) by a team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers.
Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wuttler stated that this 36-year-old suspect, a resident of the Kalutara area, was brought to the country after being arrested in Dubai. After his statements were recorded by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers at Katunayake Airport, he has been handed over to the Colombo Central Criminal Investigation Division under strict security for further investigations.
An international Red Notice had also been issued against him, who is also known as 'Kudu Lalith', and that notice was obtained by the Western Province South Crimes Division in connection with a case pending before the Avissawella Magistrate's Court. It is also stated that the Colombo High Court had issued an open warrant against him for failing to appear before the court in connection with a murder charge.
Furthermore, open warrants have been issued against him by the Avissawella Magistrate's Court in connection with the incident on September 20, 2021, where an attempt was made to murder a person by shooting and seriously injuring them in front of a house in the Nelunthuduwa area, and the incident on October 16, 2022, where three individuals were cut and seriously injured.
