Kamantha Amarasekara has offered an 86 kg golden casket to the Sacred Tooth Relic.

The Dalada Maligawa Trust has officially informed the Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs, through a memorandum, that an extraordinary golden casket weighing 86 kg has been received as an offering for the enshrinement of the Sacred Tooth Relic. This memorandum has been submitted with the signatures of the Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Nayaka Thero, Mahanayaka of the Malwathu Chapter, the Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Nayaka Thero, Mahanayaka of the Asgiri Chapter, and Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela.

According to a request from Mr. Kamantha Amarasekara, his family members, relatives, and friends, and with the approval of the Dalada Maligawa Trust, Mr. Amarasekara has provided the full financial contribution for this grand offering. According to reports certified by the National Gem and Jewellery Authority, the total amount of pure gold contained in this golden casket is 65.224 kg. The weight of the various gemstones embedded in it is 1.480 kg, and 20.822 kg has been used for soldering and auxiliary materials, bringing the total weight of the casket to 86.04 kg.

Steps have been taken to safely enshrine the historical casket, which has housed the Sacred Tooth Relic until now, within the Sri Dalada Maligawa, ensuring the preservation of its ancient identity and value. Historical records indicate that the large silver casket, which housed the Sacred Tooth Relic in the past, was commenced by King Vimaladharmasuriya II and completed and offered during the reign of King Kirti Sri Rajasinghe.

This casket has been adorned with valuable pearls, gems, and jewellery offered by kings, heads of state, special guests, and devotees who ruled this country in various eras. Furthermore, the Dalada Maligawa Trust states that delegations from Burma and Siam also offered ornaments and other sacred items on various occasions to embellish the large silver casket.

Mr. Kamantha Amarasekara is also a member of the Board of Directors of the listed companies Kelani Tyres PLC, Lanka Milk Foods (CWE) PLC, Madulsima Plantations PLC, Balangoda Plantations PLC, Eden Hotel Lanka PLC, Ceylon Hotels Corporation PLC, Palm Garden Hotels PLC, and AgStar PLC.

He is currently the fourth-largest shareholder of Browns Investments PLC.
