The owner of House of Fashion fell ill immediately after being arrested on a customs valuation fraud.

On the 17th, the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court ordered the remand of Mr. Preethi Jayawardena, the owner of "House of Fashions," a leading business establishment in the country's prominent apparel and fashion sector. He had been arrested by a group of customs officers at his residence in connection with a customs valuation issue related to a special investigation being conducted by Sri Lanka Customs.

However, while in customs custody after his arrest, Mr. Preethi Jayawardena suffered a sudden heart attack, and due to this, authorities took steps to immediately admit him to the Colombo National Hospital based on medical advice. While the suspect was hospitalized and receiving treatment, the Colombo Chief Magistrate visited the Colombo National Hospital and personally observed his medical condition before issuing the remand order.

With this court order, the owner of "House of Fashions" is currently receiving inpatient medical treatment at the Colombo National Hospital under the direct protection of prison officials. Sri Lanka Customs has not yet officially disclosed details regarding the nature of the customs investigation that raised the customs valuation issue leading to this arrest, nor the specific charges related to it. However, these details are expected to be reported to the court during the next court session.
