Sixteen individuals who rode motorcycles at excessive speeds and with loud noises, causing severe disturbance to the public, were arrested yesterday (17) by the Homagama Headquarters Police. This group was taken into police custody during a series of special raids conducted in Homagama town and several surrounding areas, based on information received by the police regarding individuals behaving in a manner that harasses the public.
The police also took into custody sixteen motorcycles that were in their possession, which had been completely altered from their original form and illegally fitted with additional parts. Among these were motorcycles with modified silencer sounds, removed side mirrors and mudguards, and improperly affixed number plates. Furthermore, motorcycles that had been modified with altered lighting patterns and dangerous added components were also taken into police custody.
Investigations conducted regarding the suspects arrested in this raid revealed that five of them did not even possess valid driving licenses for riding.
This group of suspects, who were taken into police custody, is scheduled to be produced before the Homagama Magistrate's Court on the 22nd.
