A note from Namal about Sale

Namal Rajapaksa, the National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), has commented on his X account regarding former intelligence chief Suresh Salley, who is currently held under detention orders in connection with the Easter attacks. It states as follows:

"The information revealed by media reports and the points raised by Major General (Retired) Suresh Salley's lawyer in court regarding his detention are a matter of grave concern.

Mr. Suresh Salley is being held not under a remand order from a Magistrate's Court, but under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA). What is particularly striking is the silence of many activists who have spoken out against the PTA for years. Their sudden silence raises serious questions about consistency and principles.

Justice must be served to all victims of the Easter Sunday attacks. However, it must happen without bias, political influence, or the selective application of the law to only a chosen few. If investigations are conducted based on political agendas instead of the truth, it could become a betrayal of the victims and their families who are still hoping for true justice."

The commission report itself clearly mentioned individuals who bore personal responsibility for its findings and negligence. Ironically, some of the individuals connected to those findings are today leading these investigations.

As the opposition, we are not against investigations. Accountability is essential. However, investigations driven by political agendas will never deliver true justice to the victims of the Easter attacks. That is my firm stance on the matter.
