Western Province Governor Haniff Yusuf has officially announced his decision to resign from his post. Mr. Yusuf, who also serves as the President's Special Envoy on Foreign Direct Investment, states that he took this step due to the severe busyness he has faced.

He points out that fulfilling both the diplomatic responsibilities assigned as a Governor and the additional duties assigned as the President's Special Envoy for attracting foreign direct investment simultaneously has become a significant challenge. Mr. Yusuf further stated that he arrived at this decision also considering the need to maintain a proper balance with his family responsibilities.

Mr. Yusuf stated that he had previously informed the President of his desire to resign from the governorship, and confirmed this by issuing a special media statement, providing clarification to various speculations that had appeared in the media recently. However, to ensure a smooth and orderly transition period in provincial administration, he also stated that he would continue to serve as the Governor of the Western Province until the President appoints a suitable successor to the post.

Mr. Haniff Yusuf emphasizes that he hopes to provide maximum support to the President's economic vision even after stepping down from the post. Accordingly, he also stated that he intends to continue serving in his current voluntary position as the President's Special Envoy on Foreign Direct Investment, utilizing his international connections and networks to attract foreign direct investment and contribute to Sri Lanka's national development.

Stating that he considers it a privilege to have held such a responsible position for the country and contributed to the nation's progress, he extends his gratitude to the President for the trust placed in him and for providing this opportunity. Mr. Haniff Yusuf concludes his statement by saying that his commitment to serving Sri Lanka will not change in any way.
