
The suspect Chinese national, who had stabbed and killed his former Chinese girlfriend with a sharp weapon in a housing complex in Kalubowila and severely injured her new boyfriend before fleeing, has been arrested by the police after fourteen days. The 26-year-old suspect was apprehended by the Western Province South Crime Division on the 6th of last month while he was secretly hiding in room number 1908 on the 19th floor of a building located on Anagarika Dharmapala Mawatha, Colombo.
It is reported that at the time of his arrest, 2200 milligrams of 'Ice' drug were also taken into police custody from his possession.The victim of this tragic incident was a 29-year-old Chinese student named Liu Yi Han, who was studying for a second-year degree course at the University of Moratuwa. The crime took place on the 23rd of last month on the second floor of the Kent Resident housing complex located on Peiris Avenue, Kalubowila. Police investigations have revealed that the suspect, who works for a well-known travel agency, did not report to his workplace after committing the crime.
A close relationship had existed between the deceased young woman and the suspect for some time, but she later ended that relationship and began associating with another Chinese national working in the Colombo Port City, as well as another individual. Due to this, the suspect was deeply resentful, and a senior police officer stated that there had been several arguments between the two. Following this contentious situation, the deceased young woman had moved out of the said housing complex and gone to live in another house with her new boyfriend.
On the 23rd of last month, she had come to the Kent Resident housing complex, where she previously resided, with her new boyfriend, with the intention of collecting some of her belongings. There, the suspect former boyfriend, who had already concealed a sharp weapon, attacked her. When her new boyfriend intervened to prevent the attack, the suspect stabbed him with the same weapon, causing severe injuries, and then fled. The young woman, who sustained severe injuries from the attack, died on the spot, while the other injured Chinese national was rushed to the hospital.
The suspect has currently been handed over to the Kohuwala Police for further investigations. A police team, including Inspector Sumith Jayasinghe, OIC of the Western Province South Crime Division, and Sub-Inspector Buddhika Chaturanga, OIC of Unit Five, is conducting further investigations into the incident.
