For the first time, Iran has also agreed to a ceasefire with America.

A two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran has come into effect from the night of April 7, 2026, temporarily halting the devastating war that lasted for over five weeks. This agreement is particularly noteworthy as it was reached just hours before the strict ultimatum issued by US President Donald Trump, who stated that "an entire civilization would be destroyed tonight."

President Trump announced via his 'Truth Social' account that he would agree to this ceasefire only if shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is safely and fully permitted. Concurrently, the American White House confirmed that all bombing and offensive operations against Iran have been suspended, emphasizing that this was a mutual agreement between both parties.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi and the country's National Security Council have stated that they too will agree to cease fighting only if attacks against Iran are stopped. Iran, asserting that this is not the end of the war, has presented a 10-point proposal as a basis for future discussions, which includes conditions such as the lifting of decades-old American sanctions, the withdrawal of American troops from the region, and the continuation of uranium enrichment.

Pakistan has acted as a key mediator to de-escalate this crisis, and discussions between the two parties are scheduled to begin in Islamabad on Friday, April 10, thanks to the strenuous efforts of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the country's military leadership. According to diplomatic correspondents, Pakistan's intervention has created an opportunity for America and Iran to withdraw from the conflict honorably without military setbacks.

Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, through which approximately 20 percent of the global supply of crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) passes, had stranded hundreds of oil tankers and created a global energy crisis. However, economic reports indicate that with the announcement of the ceasefire, crude oil prices in the world market have fallen significantly, and global stock market indices have risen.

Prior to this ceasefire, thousands of military personnel and civilians lost their lives due to a massive series of attacks launched jointly by the US and Israel on February 28, under the name "Operation Epic Fury," targeting Iran's nuclear and military sites. During this war, many high-ranking officials, including Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, were killed. Iranian state media also reported that two people died in an attack on a bridge in the Kashan region just hours before the ceasefire, against the backdrop of Israel warning Iranian citizens to avoid using trains for safety.

Israel has expressed its support for the US-Iran ceasefire but has clarified that this agreement does not apply to their ongoing operations against the Hezbollah organization in Lebanon. Although several missile warnings were reported in Israel and the United Arab Emirates even after the ceasefire was announced, major attacks have now completely ceased.
