The 21-year-old garment factory worker was reportedly abducted by the factory's own employees while returning from work.

Kandaketiya Police stated that two employees of the same garment factory, involved in the abduction of a 21-year-old woman who was returning home with her brother after finishing work at a garment factory in the Kandaketiya, Karametiya area, were arrested along with the three-wheeler.




This 21-year-old woman, a resident of Girandurukotte, Hobariyawa area, and her 19-year-old brother have been temporarily residing in the Badulupitiya area of Kandaketiya for about eight months and working at this garment factory. Police officers successfully rescued the abducted woman unharmed from the main suspect's house located in the Sorabora Left Bank area of Mahiyanganaya.

On the evening of the incident, after finishing work, the young woman arrived in Badulupitiya by the factory's transport bus and was walking home with her brother. Meanwhile, the two suspects, who work at the same garment factory, were in a three-wheeler stopped at the Badulupitiya junction, forcibly pulled her into the three-wheeler and fled.




Following a complaint made by her brother to the Kandaketiya Police regarding the incident, police officers immediately launched an operation. A 23-year-old man residing in the Sorabora Left Bank area of Mahiyanganaya and a 28-year-old man residing in the Dambarawa area of Mahiyanganaya were thus arrested. The police are also conducting investigations to arrest another garment worker involved in the incident who is currently at large.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the 23-year-old suspect in custody had constantly pursued the young woman, expressing his desire to have a romantic relationship with her, and that this abduction was carried out due to her refusal.



Under the instructions of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Mahesh Senaratne, in charge of Uva Province, Deputy Inspector General of Police Laksiri Wijesena, in charge of Badulla District, Senior Superintendent of Police Jagath Rohana, and Assistant Superintendent of Police 1 Vegitha Degapriya, a team of officers including Kandaketiya Police Station OIC Police Inspector Harsha Deepal Jayathunga are conducting further investigations into the incident.
