The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has decided to introduce a new methodology from tomorrow (19th) to face the fuel crisis affecting this country due to the war situation in the Middle East region. Accordingly, fuel will be issued based on the last digit of the vehicle's registration number plate, parallel to the already implemented QR code system.
With the aim of protecting national fuel reserves, the government re-implemented this QR system from the 16th.Explaining this new program, Dr. Mayura Nettikumara, the Managing Director of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, stated that this distribution will take place according to odd and even days of the calendar. Accordingly, vehicles with number plates ending in 0 or even numbers 2, 4, 6, and 8 will have the opportunity to obtain fuel on even days, March 20 and 22. Concurrently, if the last digit of the vehicle is an odd number 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9, steps have been taken to provide fuel for those vehicles on odd days, March 19 and 21.
The main objective of introducing such a control mechanism is to reduce the number of vehicles visiting fuel stations daily by approximately half and provide a more systematic service to the public. In addition, the Managing Director further pointed out that in the face of the current global crisis, managing Sri Lanka's fuel stocks with extreme caution and frugality is also expected through this.
