Regarding the Airbus incident, where it was revealed in court that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa received 60 million as a bribe, Indika Anuruddha of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna stated the following.
Topic: Airbus deal, what is the reason?
No, I think that Airbus has now crashed into Pelawatta.
So now these people continuously slandered the Rajapaksas. However, the people who gave 6.5 million votes to President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who saved this country, never thought such a defamatory act would be done against him.
Because the 6.5 million votes were given by the people who still believe that President Mahinda Rajapaksa did something for this country and liberated it.
So, they put their hand in the wrong place, the bad place. Also, we absolutely do not approve of interference or meddling with this court, especially this Bribery Commission.
Therefore, it would be good if the Director General of the Bribery Commission made a public statement regarding this incident. Because such affidavits coming out like this greatly affect the independence of the Bribery Commission.
So, I think, having been appointed through such political appointments, we saw that Mr. Nandana Gunathilaka clearly stated before his death that the current Director General of the Bribery Commission acted as a member of their political board.
However, he is not alive today to hear that. Also, we did not see the party or the Director General of the Bribery Commission deny it anywhere.
Did Mr. Nandana Gunathilaka die? Was he made to die? Or was he murdered? We still don't know today.
However, this affidavit states that when a person did not behave as they wished during questioning, that person died by hanging. That they committed suicide.
So, I don't think everyone has broken their backs. I think that officer, that public servant, has given the correct answer.
So, this should be investigated urgently. If the Director General of the Bribery Commission is such a person, I think we will have to pay close attention to the remaining complaints filed with it.
However, I don't think anyone will remain silent for this. This is a serious accusation.
If it's right, by now the Director General of the Bribery Commission should make a public statement about this. Otherwise, the government should make a statement.
So, if they think the government, or the president, or the ministers can manipulate the judiciary as they wish, and can manipulate these independent institutions, that is wrong. These institutions were established to work independently for the people. Today, they have reached a point where that is not visible. With yesterday's affidavit incident, it's unnecessary to say that a black mark has been added to the rule of law.
