The prefectural police confirmed today (20) that six people, including young children, have died in a severe road accident on the Shin-Meishin Expressway running through Kameyama City, Mie Prefecture, Japan. This tragedy occurred inside the Nonoto Tunnel, located in the downhill direction of the expressway.




Preliminary investigations have revealed that all those who died in this multi-vehicle accident, which involved several vehicles colliding with each other, were passengers traveling in two motor vehicles. The exact number and ages of the children among the deceased have not yet been released.

Among the vehicles involved in the accident were trucks and several other motor vehicles, and as of this morning, operations to remove the damaged vehicles from the tunnel were carried out with great effort. Accordingly, between approximately 9:35 AM and 10:14 AM Japan time, rescue teams took steps to remove the large trucks and other vehicles involved in the accident from the tunnel.
