Did India win the cup by match-fixing?

India managed to win the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Cricket tournament held in 2026. However, with this magnificent victory, various rumors, accusations, and conspiracy theories are strongly spreading across social media, among some former players, and among fans from rival countries.

These accusations are based on claims that pitches were prepared to favor Indian batsmen and controversial umpiring decisions, such as Shimron Hetmyer's dismissal in a match against the West Indies. Comments made by experts like Nasser Hussain and Daren Sammy regarding these controversial decisions have further fueled these rumors. Additionally, it is continuously being propagated on social media, including YouTube, that the tournament was manipulated to benefit India due to the influence of the Indian Cricket Board and the home advantage.

It appears that the frustration of rival fans, unable to tolerate India's exceptional performance in the semi-final against England and the final match, is the main reason for these social media campaigns. Specifically, former Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir, who was banned in 2010 due to match-fixing, has accused India and the International Cricket Council of involvement in match-fixing, but this has been dismissed as merely his personal opinion.

Although the suspension of American player Aaron Jones on corruption charges and incidents that emerged in several domestic tournaments in India have drawn significant public attention to this topic, reliable sources such as the ICC and Cricinfo have confirmed that neither the International Cricket Council nor the Anti-Corruption Units of the Indian Cricket Board have initiated any official investigation into India's World Cup victory.

No credible evidence or confirmed report has yet been presented to suggest that yesterday's victory was achieved through match-fixing. India claimed their third T20 World Cup by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final match held on March 8th. Batting first, the Indian team scored 255 runs for 5 wickets, while the New Zealand team could only manage 159 runs. With this, they successfully defended the championship they won in 2024, and this also marked the first time in history that a host nation won a T20 World Cup on home soil.
